About Us
A Dash of Love, a Pinch of Healing
Founded in 2014 by Dr. Katia Saintfort-Russ, Baking Is Therapy, Inc. (B.I.T.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young women through mentorship, creative expression, and STEAM education. What began as a small initiative using baking as a therapeutic outlet for young girls has grown into a dynamic learning organization that integrates culinary arts, science, technology, and leadership development to prepare students for the future.
B.I.T. was created with a simple but powerful belief: hands-on learning can build both confidence and capability. Through structured mentoring programs, students explore the science of baking while developing essential life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience. Baking becomes more than a culinary activity, it becomes an entry point into food science, chemistry, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Today, Baking Is Therapy offers a range of STEAM-based programs and workshops designed for students ages 13–18 across the Tampa Bay region and Polk County. Participants engage in experiential learning that blends culinary arts with science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, helping them understand how creativity and technical skills work together in real-world industries.

As technology continues to reshape every field, B.I.T. has expanded its programming to include foundational learning in artificial intelligence and digital literacy. Through age-appropriate activities and project-based learning, students are introduced to topics such as computational thinking, data awareness, and the growing role of AI across industries—including food systems, supply chains, and culinary innovation. These experiences encourage curiosity, strengthen analytical thinking, and help students envision new career pathways.

In addition to STEAM education, Baking Is Therapy provides mentorship, leadership development, and personal growth opportunities that support the social and emotional well-being of young participants. Each program is designed to cultivate confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging while exposing students to fields that are underrepresented.

Under the leadership of Dr. Saintfort-Russ, Baking Is Therapy continues to expand its impact by combining healing, education, and innovation. The organization is committed to equipping young women with the knowledge, skills, and support systems needed to thrive academically, professionally, and personally. Through its programs, Baking Is Therapy is helping develop a generation of confident, capable, and technologically literate young students who are prepared to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
